Key differences between 2015 and legacy OCR Physics A specifications

 

AS and A level are completely seperate qualifications for students starting in 2015. Students will be examined on the AS specification (modules 1-4) at the end of Y12, they will also be re-examined on the AS content as well as the A2 content (modules 1-6) at the end of Y13.

AS Physics

AS Component 1.  Breadth in Physics (modules 1-4), (H156/01); 1hr 30 mins,  70 marks,   50% of AS level

 

  • Section A: multiple choice questions, 20 marks

  • Section B: structured questions covering theory and practical skills, 50 marks

 

 

AS Component 2.   Depth in physics (Modules 1-4), (H156/02); 1hr 30 mins, 70 marks, 50% of AS level.

 

  • Structured questions and extended response questions covering theory and practical skills

A level physics with practical endorsement

Component 1. Modelling physics (Modules 1,2,3,5), (H556/01); 2hrs 15 mins, 100 marks, 37% of A level

 

  • Section A: multiple choice questions, 15 marks

  • Section B: structured questions and extended response questions covering theory and practical skills, 85 marks

 

Component 2. Exploring physics (Modules 1,2,4,6), (H556/02); 2hrs 15 minutes, 100 marks, 37% of A level

 

  • Section A: multiple choice questions, 15 marks

  • Section B: structured questions and extended response questions covering theory and practical skills, 85 marks

 

Component 3. Unified physics (Modules 1-6), (H556/03); 1hr 30 mins, 70 marks 26% of A level.

 

  • Structured questions and extended response questions covering theory and practical skills

 

Component 4. Practical Endorsement,  (H556/04)

 

  • Minimum of 12 practical assessment completed over the duration of the course and reported seperately
